Anointing of Thirumala Srivari festival idols once a year from now on. TTD board approval.

The Thirumala Tirupati Temple Board has taken steps to protect the devotees of Kaliyuga deity Thirumala Tirupati Sri Venkateswara Swamy. As part of that, it decided to reduce the anointings. The anointing is done 450 times a year for the Srivari festival-goers. That these anointings would change the appearance of the celebrants, Recognizing that the erosion was visible, the priests, along with members of the Agama Advisory Council and TTD members, came to a decision. It was decided to hold anointings only once a year to preserve the ceremonial figures.

Priests, agama advisory council proposal recognizing idols are eroding:

This caused the priests to notice that the idols were burning. Priests, members of the Agama Advisory Council, Elder Jeyangar, and others made some proposals to the TTD officials and the board to prevent this degradation as the faces of the idols were not looking properly and the form was changing. They say that the altar will also be damaged by the anointing.

Moreover, the chief priests, along with members of the Agama Advisory Council, are of the view that the anointing services currently being conducted have no historical significance in the Thirumala Srivari pooja system.
